What is Pilates
Created by Joseph Pilates, Pilates is a system of exercises using special apparatus or equipment designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, and posture as well as enhanced mental awareness. Each exercise can be modified to meet the needs of each client. Pilates is suitable for all types of bodies and all levels of fitness. Pilates can be used safely to assist in recovering from an injury and it can help to prevent injuries by developing one’s awareness and alignment. This is achieved through a focus on the core abdominal muscles that support posture and stability and through the use of breath to oxygenate the body, improve concentration and assist with muscle firing patterns.
What is Yoga?
Yoga is based on the Eastern idea of how energy flows through the body. The general goal of yoga is to release physical tension to improve the flow of energy through the body. This is achieved through controlled stretching and strengthening. The poses strengthen the body while the proper breathing helps to calm the mind. Applied to everyday life, these principles increase body awareness and assist in achieving inner and outer balance.
